Minister Donohoe congratulates Ryanair on ground-breaking Boeing deal which will contribute further to job creation
9th September 2014 - Paschal Donohoe TD
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, today (Tuesday) welcomed the announcement by Ryanair that it has signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 100 new 737 MAX 200 aircraft, with an option to purchase a further 100. The order is Boeing’s biggest ever order from a European airline and comes as Ryanair takes delivery of the first in its current order of 180 Boeing 737-800 NextGen aircrafts.
This latest deal will expand Ryanair’s fleet from its current level of just over 300 to 520 aircraft by 2024.
Commenting on Ryanair’s announcement, Minister Donohoe congratulated the airline on its latest deal and wished them continued success.
“This deal is fantastic news for Irish and European aviation. Ryanair is a hugely successful Irish company which has changed the face of aviation in Europe and beyond. It has led the low fares revolution in air travel which has hugely benefitted the tourism industry in Ireland and across Europe and helped create thousands of jobs. This deal will enable it to continue its expansion and contribute even further to job creation. I wish the company and its staff continued success in this next phase of its development.”
