Keane welcomes vote by South Dublin County Council to cut property tax rate by 15%
23rd September 2014 - Susan Moss
Fine Gael Dublin South West bye-election candidate, Senator Cáit Keane, has welcomed news that South Dublin County Council has voted to cut the property tax rate by 15%.
South Dublin County Council voted in favour of reducing the property tax this afternoon, by a margin of 36 to 1.
“I am pleased to see that Councillors voted to reduce the property tax by the maximum amount allowed,” Senator Keane stated. “This will save residents of this area anywhere between €60 and €100 next year,” she pointed out.
“This reduction is possible because 80% of the property tax collected remains in the county. Taking this into consideration, along with today’s 15% reduction afforded to homeowners, it’s worth noting that South Dublin County Council still has a surplus of €1.6 million in the coffers, ensuring the standard of services delivered by the Council remain high,” the Senator continued.
“Today’s move will boost our local economy by nearly €5 million. This will increase consumer spending and support local businesses and jobs, which is our top priority in Dublin South West.”
