Jobs Committee to invite Sean O’Sullivan to discuss Entrepreneurship Forum Report – English

Fine Gael Meath West TD, Damien English, has today (Thursday) said that as Chair of the Oireachtas Jobs Committee he intends to extend an invite to Sean O’Sullivan to discuss the main recommendations of the Report of the Entrepreneurship Forum.

The Forum, which was set up as part of the Action Plan for Jobs 2013, has looked at ways of providing supports for entrepreneurs and start-ups. Its Report, published today by the Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton TD, includes 69 recommendations on how we strengthen the entrepreneurial culture in this country.

“This Report contains a number of very interesting recommendations, some of which are quite radical – such as a flat tax of 15-20% for all rates of income – and others which could be easily implemented by small businesses right across the country.

“I am very keen to explore the Report’s recommendations, and for that reason I will be proposing that the Jobs Committee invite Sean O’Sullivan to come before us and discuss its findings. Sean has proven himself to be an outstanding entrepreneur, and I am sure that his expertise could be utilised to initiate innovative changes.

“In particular, the Report makes some very interesting proposals on the use of NAMA buildings, the need for a national mentoring network, a national strategy focussed on entrepreneurship for all levels of the educational system, and the merits of introducing tax incentives for investment in enterprise.

“Minister Bruton intends to implement many of the recommendations as part of the Action Plan for Jobs and he will also produce the first ever Government Entrepreneurship Policy Statement. The Jobs Committee can make a positive input in this process by discussing the contents of the Report further.”
