Increased investment benefitting Louth business – Fitzpatrick
7th July 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael Louth TD, Peter Fitzpatrick, has today (Monday) welcomed the IDA announcement of increased foreign investment in Irish business in the first half of the year.
“The IDA has today confirmed an increase in the number of businesses investing in Ireland and I am delighted that one of the most significant investments has been in Co. Louth.
“So far this year there has been an announcement of 400 jobs in PayPal, one of Dundalk’s biggest employers.
“ Over 100 investments were secured in the first six months of 2014, compared to 70 at the same time last year.
“As part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, we have committed to spreading growth and recovery to all regions of Ireland. Investments by companies such as PayPal indicate Dundalk’s potential as a successful business hub. Dundalk is accessible and we are equipped to provide the skilled workforce required from large companies.
“We know that small, local businesses generate the majority of jobs in Ireland but these small companies are supported by demand from larger companies. Foreign investment in Louth has directly created vital jobs, but it has also indirectly resulted in increased footfall through local businesses. This means that more people can build a life in the area which is completely positive.
“I am very pleased to see that the outlook is good for continued investment in Ireland for the second half of the year and I would appeal to business owners to consider Louth as an attractive location in which to do business.”
