Feighan welcomes RSA’s efforts to speed up processing time for driving licence applications
25th February 2014 - Daniel Rowan
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has welcomed the Road Safety Authority’s efforts to speed up processing times for driving licence applications.
“Clearly, there have been backlogs in relation to the processing of applications at some National Driver Licensing Service (NDLS) centres. These delays have led to understandable frustration among drivers waiting for their new or updated licence.
“However, I have been informed by the Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, that the Road Safety Authority (RSA), which has statutory responsibility for the operation of the National Driver Licensing Service, is making welcome progress regarding processing times.
“The RSA has advised Minister Varadkar that it is on course to have a ten-day turnaround by the end of February, and a five- to eight-day turnaround by the end of March.
“Currently, I understand that applications which are fully in order are being now processed in or under twelve days. Naturally, cases where the application is not fully in order, and further documentation and/or contact with the applicant is required, take longer.
“However, the RSA has now committed itself to improved response times and I look forward to an end to frustrating backlogs being experienced by many drivers.”
