Feighan welcomes planning go-ahead for regional ambulance base in Roscommon

5th January 2014 - Daniel Rowan

Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed Roscommon County Council’s decision to give the planning go-ahead to develop an ambulance base at the former Garda Station in Loughglynn, Co. Roscommon.

“I welcome the news that the HSE has now got formal planning to develop this long awaited ambulance base which will serve the west Roscommon and east Mayo region.

“As part of the planning permission granted for this major development, approval was given for a change of use of the former Garda station located in north Roscommon.

“The OPW has already agreed a  five year lease with the National Ambulance Service to use the former Garda station as a regional ambulance base.

“I am delighted that this important project has taken a huge step forward and I would like to sincerely thank the work of local Councillor Michael Creaton who has worked so hard on this issue.

“Once up and running, this vital facility for communities in west Roscommon and east Mayo will significantly help to improve emergency response times in areas which heretofore were ambulance blackspots.”
