Cork has the potential to be Ireland’s answer to Silicon Valley – Clune

24th April 2014 - Aoife Carragher

Fine Gael Senator and Ireland South MEP Candidate, Deirdre Clune, today (Thursday) has welcomed the news that Cork-based technology firm, VConnecta, have become the first Irish company to supply campaigning software to major political parties in the United States.

“VConnecta’s product Ecanvasser is already being used in Ireland ahead of the local elections next month and now the company is expanding and proving its merit as it competes with household names in the US technology industry.

“The success of VConnecta reinforces Cork’s growing reputation as Ireland’s answer to Silicon Valley and highlights the opportunities available to graduates in this sector. It is important to encourage graduates in Cork to consider Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths based courses as these are areas of expansion where vacancies are becoming available.

“Vconnecta’s advancement into the US market is a mammoth breakthrough. The roll-out of the company’s initial user base in Nevada proves that Cork technology is market leading and more than capable of meeting the needs of major US political parties as well as other potential clients.

“The technology sector in Cork represents an area of real growth; an industry where jobs are being created and these jobs are well paid and sustainable. VConnecta’s growth into the US market is a real demonstration of the confidence there is in Cork’s capabilities. The future economic prosperity of Cork will largely depend on the success of home-grown, Cork-based, companies like VConnecta.”
