Fine Gael TD for Laois Offaly, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy has today (Tuesday), been appointed as Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, the position vacated by Damien English, Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Skills, Research and Innovation.

“I am delighted to be appointed as Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. I appreciate the support of the committee in my nomination and I look forward to focusing on the important work ahead with my committee colleagues.

“I wish Damien English well in his new role as Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Skills, Research and Innovation, a role I am sure he will assume with great success.

“I bring to the role of Chairperson a wealth of experience as Director of Community Enterprise boards and a personal interest in SMEs coming from a family of small business owners going back through the generations.

“The Government is dedicated to the creation and recovery of jobs. This committee is one of the most relevant committees to be involved in and I look forward to getting to work.

“Having previously chaired the Dáil, as well as numerous committees, I am confident that I have the necessary skills to be an effective Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.”
