Conway congratulates Frances Fitzgerald on appointment as Minister for Justice

Clare Fine Gael Senator and Seanad Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Disability, Martin Conway, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, that Frances Fitzgerald TD has been appointed as the new Minister for Justice.

“I am delighted that Minister Frances Fitzgerald TD, has been appointed as the new Minister for Justice. Minister Fitzgerald has considerable political experience, with a strong track record in delivering significant reforms. I have no doubt that she will build on the radical agenda for legal change and statutory reforms already initiated by Alan Shatter TD.

“In my role as Justice Spokesperson in the Seanad, I will be working closely with the new Minister and a number of stakeholders to build on the justice and law reform agenda currently in the course of enactment and implementation.

“We are in a time of great change that is of crucial importance for all who reside in this State. It has been a time of great difficulty, not only for the State, but for the hundreds of thousands who reside in the State.

“Amidst the difficulties it is also a time of great opportunity; an opportunity to effect reforms that benefit all of those who reside in the State and address issues that were for too long neglected. It is in this context that, the new Minister for Justice will successfully implement the vital statutory reforms.

“I would like to pay tribute to the excellent work of the outgoing Minister and the many reforms already implemented by him. I look forward to working hard with Minister Fitzgerald.”
