Byrne welcomes jobs and investment boost for the Liberties

24th March 2014 - Sarah Meade

Fine Gael Dublin South Central TD, Catherine Byrne, has today (Monday) welcomed the announcement that the Liberties is set to benefit from a new €40 million property development at the Digital Hub. Up to 300 construction jobs will be created through the development of an additional 10,650 square feet of enterprise office space and a housing development for 470 students on Bonham Street in Dublin 8.

“This is a very significant announcement from the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA) which will not only result in hundreds of local jobs in the short-term, the extra office space being provided will also help the Hub to attract further investment in the years ahead.

“The Digital Hub has cemented its reputation for acting as a superb environment for innovation and enterprise to flourish. A number of firms which had their origins in the Hub have gone on to bigger and better things, and this additional office space will allow it to accommodate more growing companies.

“I would like to commend the DHDA for securing this investment with the UK-based firm Knightsbridge. Every time I visit the Digital Hub I am hugely impressed by the talent and enthusiasm of all those who work there. The influx of third level students into the area through the provision of additional accommodation will only boost this environment of innovation and experimentation.

“Today’s announcement will contribute significantly to the on-going development of the local economy in Dublin 8. Construction on the project is due to begin in August, and I am pleased that the UK company has stated that it will be hiring local construction workers to complete the development.

“I look forward to the completion of this major project and to the positive impact it will have on the area.”
