Business Development Group to look for new opportunities for local post offices – Fitzpatrick
16th December 2014 - Aoife Carragher
“A new Business Development Group (BDG) has been established to find new opportunities for local post offices which are at the centre of our communities” says Peter Fitzpatrick.
“Post Offices have been at the centre of Irish life for decades and while many smaller shops have had to close over the years, the Government is working to support the existing network across the country.
“The BDG will focus on finding new opportunities and services that post offices can provide. The Government, An Post and the Irish Postmasters’ Union (IPU) will come together with an Independent Chairperson with the hope of producing an interim report by the end of March 2015 and a full report by June 2015.
“Post Offices play an important economic and social role in Irish communities. This Government is committed to taking full advantage of the many opportunities which exist through post offices and the BDG is part of this. The public also has a role to play however; I would encourage everyone to use their Post Office and to keep it at the heart of the community.
“There is great potential for post offices to play an even more central role in Irish life and I am hopeful that the BDG will come up with some exciting and viable opportunities.”
