Almost 9,000 homes in Cavan and Monaghan have already availed of home energy grants

8th June 2014 - Aoife Carragher

Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan, Heather Humphreys, today (Wednesday), appealed to home owners to start applying for home energy grants now, when the weather is fair.

“Looking outside on a day like today, it’s hard to think that the winter will come, but unfortunately, it will. Now is the time to plan ahead and to think about how you can save money and get more out of your home energy.

“Since the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) launched their Better Energy Homes and their Better Energy Warmer Homes grants, almost 9,000 people in the Cavan and Monaghan area have benefited. In Cavan 3,165 home owners have received a grant for roof insulation, towards solar panels or improving their heating systems and in Monaghan, 2,751 families have benefited.

“Support has also been provided to over 1,000 homes in Monaghan and Cavan through the Better Energy Warmer Homes grant in the form of lagging-jackets, energy efficient lighting, cavity wall insulation and draught-proofing homes. Many people are eligible to avail of this particular grant for free, it is simply a matter of applying to check your status.

“SEAI are working to improve energy efficiency in Ireland. All of the measures supported by SEAI aim to reduce home heating costs in the long run and to make our home more comfortable.

“Applications can be made for the Better Energy Homes grant online at www.seai.ie/betterenergyhomes or by calling 1850 927 000. For the Better Energy Warmer Homes, this is available to low income earners and applications can be made by calling 1800 250 204.
“I realise it is hard to think about winter at this time of year, but it is advisable to plan ahead and to apply for these grants so that you have made the necessary changes to your home energy, before the winter months.”
