Adams shows willingness to let FF back into Government – Harris
9th February 2014 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Wicklow TD, Simon Harris, has today (Sunday) said that the Sinn Féin leader, Gerry Adams, has shown his willingness to allow Fianna Fáil back into Government. Deputy Harris was speaking after Gerry Adams refused to rule out going into Government with Fianna Fáil on RTE’s This Week programme.
“Gerry Adams’ mask has slipped yet again. Despite repeated questioning, Gerry Adams has refused to rule out going into Government with Fianna Fáil. This shows that all of Sinn Féin’s ranting and raving about Fianna Fáil has been a charade.
“Now it is clear that Gerry Adams is willing to allow Michéal Martin and his disastrous legacy back into Government. Sinn Féin claims to be an anti-austerity party, and yet its leader isn’t opposed to going into Government with Fianna Fáil, the Party which brought about our economic collapse and which is to blame for the very difficult economic cutbacks which have been made in recent years.
“This is yet another example of Sinn Féin’s flip flopping. Sinn Féin implements cutbacks in Government in the North, and yet it opposes every difficult measure south of the border.
“Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil have both established reputations as parties of opposition for opposition’s sake. Fianna Fail has opposed many tough measures, such as the property tax, which it signed up to in Government. Sinn Féin shouts loudly from the Opposition benches here about the same measures it is implementing in Government in the North.
“Considering the similar and hypocritical stance Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil have taken on a number of fronts, it is not surprising that the parties are now eyeing each other up as possible Government partners.
“Now at least the electorate is aware that a vote for Sinn Féin is a vote for putting Michéal Martin back into Government. The country suffered too much and has come too far for that.”
