€7m investment and 125 new jobs in VistaMed Carrick-on-Shannon and Roosky
30th May 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/Galway, Frank Feighan, today (Friday) welcomed the announcement of a €7 million investment and 125 new jobs in Carrick-on-Shannon and Roosky, made by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD.
“VistaMed is a great example of an Irish company, based in Leitrim with a world-class product offering. VistaMed is performing strongly in the highly competitive global medical technologies market and employing large numbers of people in Co. Leitrim. Today’s announcement is very good news for the region and highlights Carrick-on-Shannon and Rooskey’s potential as a successful business location.
“This new investment is in response to increased demand in the global medical device market for sophisticated and innovative catheter and stent delivery systems. I am delighted that this demand will be met in Carrick-on-Shannon and in Rooskey, by people of the locality.
“Medical technologies is a key sector which the Government has targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and in particular we have sought to support the growth of a strong cluster of Irish companies in this area.
“A key element of the Action Plan for Jobs is to ensure that job growth and recovery is seen in every region of Ireland. The Government, along with Enterprise Ireland is focused on providing companies like VistaMed with the support they need to expand and internationalise.
“€7 million has been invested in a new extension which will allow the company to offer an even more comprehensive design and development service. It will provide sophisticated equipment and enable VistaMed to continue to offer a world class service to the global medical device industry.
“1,200 jobs are now being created across the country each week. This is very encouraging but there is more to do and in particular, we need to see the real results of the recovery here in the west. Today’s announcement is a welcome boost and a huge endorsement of the excellent work being done by the people of Roscommon and Leitrim already employed by VistaMed.”
