Taoiseach’s Statement on the death of Father Alec Reid
22nd November 2013 - Enda Kenny
I extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Father Alec Reid who sadly passed away this morning. Father Reid made major contributions at so many critical times during the peace process.
Father Reid was a key figure in the peace process. He hosted a series of talks in 1994 which marked the beginning of a process upon which the 1998 Belfast Agreement was built.
Like so many people on this island, I will never forget the tragic picture in 1988, when Father Reid was photographed administering the last rites to a British army soldier killed in West Belfast, demonstrating his deep respect for human dignity and life.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
