7th April 2013 - Susan Moss
LOCAL WEXFORD T.D and Government Chief Whip, Minister Paul Kehoe has welcomed €116,250 funding for coastal work in County Wexford under the 2013 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Capital Programme.
Speaking today Minister Kehoe said:
“Last year Minister Simon Coveney requested that all coastal local authorities apply for funding for infrastructural work and Wexford County Council has been awarded €116,250 for works at Kilmore Quay and Wexford Harbour. This is an increase from the €113,250 that was granted to the County under the 2012 Capital Programme.
“We are blessed in County Wexford to have a magnificent coastline that is very attractive for tourists; however, we have to invest in maintaining access to our Harbours and Marinas.
“At Wexford Harbour repairs will be made to handrails and ladders and in Kilmore Quay and Courtown harbour walls will be re-pointed.
“All of this work will be completed by the end of this year and will provide local employment during the construction phase. Under the 2012 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Capital Programme the Department has given priority to Health and Safety Works.
“Concrete repair works will be carried out at Cahore Pier and Carne Pier. These infrastructural works at Courtown, Kilmore Quay and Wexford Harbour, are important as the County expects an increase in visitors this year because of The Gathering”.
