23rd May 2013 - Emma Hynes
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Bernard J Durkan, has today (Thursday) warmly welcomed the announcement by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, that funding has been allocated to allow Kildare County Council accept the €29 million tender for the upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Leixlip.
“This investment in a pivotal infrastructure will have a major impact on the domestic and industrial sector in Kildare and opens the way for future investment in jobs within the area.
“The upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Leixlip, which currently operates at 80,000 population equivalent capacity, will be upgraded to a capacity of 150,000. This is an important upgrade for the people of Kilcock, Maynooth, Celbridge, Leixlip and Straffan.
“This upgrade will also ensure that wastewater will be treated to the highest standards and ensure that the local environment is well protected.
“I would like to thank Minister Hogan for his support in bringing this project to fruition.”
