Conlan welcomes €9.5 million in funding for new primary care centre at Monaghan Hospital – 01/05/13
1st May 2013 - Sean Conlan
Sean Conlan TD has welcomed the announcement that €9.5 million is being provided to develop new services at Monaghan Hospital including a new Primary Care Unit. The Unit will be integrated and connected with the existing Hospital which will be refurbished.
This follows on from an announcement he made in this newspaper on July 19th last when he stated that he had secured a commitment from the Minister for Health and the Taoiseach to provide funding to build a Primary Care Unit on part of the Monaghan Hospital site. Sean added that he is delighted that the Minister for Health James Reilly has delivered on that commitment.
Deputy Conlan stressed the importance of delivering funding for the development of services at Monaghan General Hospital and the allocation of €9.5 million from the National Capital Plan for the development of services at Monaghan General Hospital is indeed a good news story for the people of the County.
This development when completed will provide a Minor Injuries Unit, Out Patient Services, In Patient Rehabilitation and Step Down beds, Day Services, Radiology and Endoscopy Services.
The new primary care unit will accommodate 2 primary care teams providing a wide range of health and social care services for the people of County Monaghan. These services will include Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Dental and Primary Care Social Work Services as well as Out Patient aspects of Mental Health Services.
This Government led by Fine Gael is clearly dedicated to the developing of the facilities at Monaghan General Hospital unlike the last Government led by Fianna Fail whose policy throughout the Celtic Tiger years was to remove services and downgrade our County Hospital and whose ultimate aim if readers remember was to close all the small hospitals in the North East and replace them with a Super Hospital somewhere outside Drogheda.
