Mathews requests meeting with Vodafone boss over job losses
22nd June 2011 - Peter Mathews
Fine Gael TD for Dublin South, Peter Mathews, has written to the Chairman of Vodafone Ireland, Jeroen Hoencamp, requesting a meeting to discuss Vodafone’s decision to move 130 Irish jobs to Egypt and India.
“While this decision affects jobs in Dundalk, many of my constituents who work in Vodafone Ireland’s headquarters in Leopardstown are understandably worried that their jobs will be next to go. They are contacting me in their droves to express their anxiety.
“As such, I have requested a meeting with Mr. Hoencamp to ask him what the Irish Government can do to help retain jobs in Vodafone’s offices in Dundalk and to prevent any future job losses in Leopardstown. I will also ask him what the Irish Government could do in order to get Vodafone to locate jobs from elsewhere in Europe to its Irish headquarters in Leopardstown.
“Politicians must have an open door approach to companies who have the ability to retain or create jobs in Ireland. Creating jobs is the Government’s number one priority. If there is something the Government can do to retain or create jobs at Vodafone Ireland, I want to know so that I can pass these suggestions onto Cabinet Ministers.”
