Parliamentary Question addressed to the Minister for Health
3rd November 2014 - Olivia Mitchell TD
To ask the Minister for Health his plans to utilise the new facility purchased at Mount Carmel; and if he will make a statement on the matter?
The HSE acquired the site at Mount Carmel Hospital, Churchtown, Dublin 14, in August 2014. The property, which requires some renovation, offers an excellent opportunity to develop an integrated pathway of care for people accessing healthcare services in the greater Dublin area. The site will be developed to enhance services to support both the acute hospitals and community services in the area. It is envisaged that short stay community beds, including step down/step up beds, assessment beds, transitional care beds and rehabilitation beds can be provided on the site. Given the original purpose of the building, the facility may also provide potential for the delivery of elective acute services for day procedures such as endoscopy, day surgery etc.
The HSE has established a Project Advisory Group to develop a design brief and oversee the development of the site. The Project Advisory Group are currently considering plans to develop the site in both the short term and long term following which a detailed project design brief will be prepared to facilitate the required renovations for delivery of services on the site.
