Mitchell welcomes long overdue Dundrum Garda Station refurbishment
20th September 2013 - Olivia Mitchell TD
Fine Gael TD for Dublin South, Olivia Mitchell, has welcomed (20/10/ 2013) the issuing of Invitations to Tender for the extension and refurbishment of Dundrum Garda Station.
“I am delighted that the long overdue work to extend and refurbish Dundrum Garda Station has begun. This is the appropriate setting for an important community feature and is part of fulfilling the commitment made to the area when Stepaside Garda Station was closed last March.
“The building work will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, which was completed earlier this year, included refurbishment work to the former Dundrum Courthouse to provide additional office accommodation. The second phase will see the existing station completely transformed and modernised to include a new public office, a new custody suite, enhanced staff facilities and refurbished office accommodation.
“Work on the site should commence as early as the end of the year and last 15 months. A public office will remain open during construction to allow for continued operation of the Garda Station.
“Despite the challenges facing the country it is vitally important that we continue to update and modernise policing services within our communities. This enhanced Garda Station will facilitate policing the area in a more efficient, effective and modern way, providing the community’s Gardaí with a far greater level of coordination as they carry out their work.”
