Mitchell welcomes funding approval for sports and recreational facility in Glencullen
1st June 2013 - Olivia Mitchell TD
Local Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Olivia Mitchell welcomed the announcement by Minister Phil Hogan that €494,938 of funding has been approved under the Rural Development Programme for Ireland 2007-2013 for the development of a sports and recreational facility in Glencullen.
“The new facility will serve the communities of Glencullen, Kilternan and Tribadden and will be built on the grounds of the Stars of Erin GAA club. The multi-function community centre is planned to open in spring 2014 and will provide much needed facilities and a permanent home to the many sports and recreational clubs operating in the community.
“Glencullen and Kilternan up to relatively recently were very much rural communities but over the last 15 years have seen the rapid encroachment of urbanisation bringing with it the urgent need for facilities for the new young population.
“Stars of Erin and the greater community have been fundraising for this facility for a number of years and this announcement recognises their hard work and dedication to improve the recreational facilities in the area.
“I am delighted that funding is being made available to this project. Despite the challenges facing the country I believe that it is vital that we make every effort to fund projects such as this which provide opportunities and improve the quality of life of our communities”.
