Contract Signed for New School – Mitchell
30th June 2014 - Olivia Mitchell TD
Fine Gael Dublin Rathdown TD, Olivia Mitchell, has welcomed the signing of the contract to construct a new 16 classroom gaelscoil at Ballyogan Avenue, Stepaside.
“Gaelscoil Shliabh Rua, which is currently located in temporary accommodation in De La Salle Palmerston Rugby Club, will be moving to this new two storey school. It will comprise of 16 classrooms, a general purpose hall, a library/resource room, special education tuition rooms and staff areas.
“An Bord Pleanála granted planning permission for the new school building in April of this year after receiving objections against the Council’s decision to grant permission, and I commend the Department of Education for acting quickly to get the contract signed.
“The huge increase in numbers nearing school going age has placed real urgency on the building of additional schools and classroom space as well as for many new teachers to meet the increased demand.
“Residents in Dublin Rathdown will also be happy to know that the Admission to Schools Bill is expected before the Dáil before this summer’s recess. This Bill will provide clarity about access eligibility and will ensure there is consistency, fairness and transparency in the admission policies of all schools”.
