Flanagan hails new schools for Laois/Offaly

2nd March 2012 - Charles Flanagan TD

Laois Offaly T.D. Charlie Flanagan has welcomed the announcement by Minister Ruairi Quinn of the 5 year school building programme which will see a number of towns around the constituency receive new school buildings and extensions. The overall building plan will see €1.5bn of investment spent on school buildings between 2012 and 2016.

“I am extremely pleased with this announcement. These projects should have been carried out years ago in line with the rapid population growth in the Midlands. We must however look forward. This is a most substantial school building programme and reflects the Programme for Governments commitment to prioritise school building projects”

“It recognises the the growth in population in Portlaoise in particular and the need to ensure first class infrastructure in education for the towns of Portlaoise and Portarlington. We wish all associated parties well for a smooth building programme. “

The major schools investment programme will provide 15,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs.
