DÁIL QUESTION addressed to the Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Frances Fitzgerald)
by Deputy Bernard J. Durkan
for WRITTEN on Thursday, 9th July, 2015.
* To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of decrees of divorce applied for, and granted, in each year from 2004 to 2014 and in 2015 to date; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

REPLY.
The Deputy will be aware that, under the provisions of the Courts Service Act 1998, management of the courts, which includes the provision of information on the courts system, is the responsibility of the Courts Service.
However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy, I have had enquiries made and the Courts Service has informed me that in 2014 there were 3,831 applications for divorce and 2,638 orders were granted.
Statistics for the years 2004 to 2013 are published in the Courts Service annual reports and are available on the Courts Service website www.courts.ie and in the Oireachtas Library.
