Durkan welcomes €282 million Newlands Cross upgrade project
Fine Gael Kildare North TD has today (Tuesday) welcomed the announcement that the Government has signed a contract with a consortium to construct the €282 million project to remove the bottleneck at Newlands Cross on the N7. Up to 80,000 vehicles pass through Newlands Cross every day.
This is the first transport Public Private Partnership to be signed since 2007, and is being bundled together with an upgrade to the N11 in Wicklow.
“The signing of the €282 million contract for the upgrading of Newlands Cross is a welcome and positive development, economically and socially.
“This well-known traffic bottleneck has over the years been one to avoid particularly at peak traffic times.
“The work, when completed, will be of tremendous benefit to commuters and industry, by shortening the journey in or out of Dublin considerably.”
