‘Leap Card’ Integrated Ticketing System Goes Live!
2nd December 2011 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
Kildare North TD, Anthony Lawlor, warmly welcomed the announcement this morning (Monday 12th December) by Minister for Public and Commuter Transport, Alan Kelly, together with the National Transport Authority, that the new integrated transport ticket, the ‘Leap Card’, has gone live.
“This new system will be of huge benefit to daily commuters in the Greater Dublin Area, including commuters on the Celbridge/Hazlehatch and Maynooth Rail lines. Commuters will be able to switch between Commuter Trains, the LUAS, the Dart and Dublin Bus without the need for loose chain and queuing for tickets. The new ‘Leap Card’ will enable commuters to jump between the different transport systems without having to plan their journey or buy a specific ticket in advance. They simply need to ‘Tag-On’ and ‘Tag’Off’ during each journey.
“Not only will this new system bring about ease of travel for commuters, it will also benefit their pockets by including savings of between 10%-20% on single journeys when using the card. Further information about the card and how to apply for same can be found at www.leapcard.ie. A commitment had been given in the Programme for Government to advance the project as quickly as possible, and I am delighted that this promise has been fulfilled so quickly” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
