Action Plan for Jobs delivering on promise, with 629 jobs created so far this week – Lawlor

Wednesday, September 25th 2013

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, has today (Wednesday) said that the Action Plan for Jobs is delivering on its goal to reverse the free fall of job losses experienced in this country between 2008 and 2010, with 629 jobs created so far this week.

“The Action Plan for Jobs contains a wide range of innovative initiatives designed to stimulate job creation in this country. In 2012, we saw the first annual increase in employment since 2008 and this has steadily been rising, with an average of 3,000 jobs being created per month. So far this week, 629 jobs have been created, 51 of these in O’Brien’s Fine Foods in Timahoe, Kildare, which is remarkable given that 7,000 jobs a week were lost between 2008 and 2010.

“The Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, has driven the Action Plan for Jobs to ensure that measures such as JobsPlus, a scheme which provides regular cash payments to employers who employ people who have been on the Live Register for over 12 months; a €175 million Seed and Venture Capital Scheme; and the National Step Change Initiative for manufacturing businesses which aims to supply 20,000 additional jobs in this sector.

“Investor confidence in Ireland continues to increase as evidenced by recent announcements of new jobs by multinationals including Twitter, National Pen and Symantec. I am confident that by continuing to focus on creating the right environment for job creation in this country, we will see a further increase inthe number of new jobs being created and more and more people coming off the Live Register.”
