€1 million for Wicklow Town library welcomed – Doyle
3rd February 2016 - Susan Moss
Fine Gael TD for Wicklow/ East Carlow, Andrew D oyle, has welcomed the announcement of €1millionfunding for a new library for Wicklow Town allocated by the Department of the Environment. This is part of a €22 million investment by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government in some 16 library capital developments and the main streaming of the Open Libraries initiative.
“Funding of €1million has been allocated for a new library at Wicklow Town. The council has identified a suitable building and when this is completed it will be a flag ship building in our county town.
“The existing building was acquired by the courts service almost a decade ago for the purposes of providing a new 4 court campus to serve the county, so the relocation of the library to a new, modern premises clears another hurdle in getting that project underway.
“The very fact that funding is now available for this new library is testament to how far the country has travelled in terms of economic health, but there is still a way to go. We must continue on a prudent path of recovery so as to allow for investment in important public infrastructure like this new library. A growing economy and increased employment provides these resources.”
