Holiday makers should be aware of changes to passport application process
31st May 2013 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
31st May 2013
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, wishes to inform people that as of 30th June the passport office will only accept applications made through the An Post Passport Express Service. A new appointment system is also in place for those who need to attend the office on Molesworth Street to seek a passport at short notice.
“The time of year is upon us again when people are planning and looking forward to a holiday. Inevitably, a large number of people will also realise that their passport has expired or is nearing its expiration date. Therefore the new changes to the passport system will assist customers by providing a faster, more efficient service.
“Passport Express has been an option in existence for a number of years and this change by the Government highlights how effective An Post has been in processing these applications. Under this system, a passport will be returned within 10 working days, rather than 4 weeks under the standard system. The new appointment system will also be of huge benefit to travellers who will no longer have to wait for hours on end in the office to get a passport processed quickly.
“I warmly welcome this endorsement by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the service provided by An Post and I am grateful that the needs of customers are being prioritised through these faster services”.
