Major investment in Balbriggan sport facilities on the way
21st December 2012 - Alan Farrell TD
“A major government investment has been granted via Fingal County Council for GAA and soccer facilities in Balbriggan,” according to Alan Farrell, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal.
“Balbriggan Football Club and O’Dwyer’s GAA are set to receive €120,000 in government funding to develop all weather sporting facilities in Bremore Park for the benefit of both clubs, as well as schools in the area.”
“This is a clear sign that government are investing in the youth of Balbriggan, their health and wellbeing, as well as the wider community who will benefit from this terrific news.
“This project was put forward by Fingal County Council for a Regional Sports Capital Allocation due to the lack of all weather facilities in Balbriggan compared to other towns in Dublin Fingal.
“This is the sort of project that Government are eager to invest in as it brings two sports, GAA and soccer, together.
“Like many sports clubs around the country, plans to develop and improve facilities at clubs such came to an abrupt stop when the economic crisis hit, threatening the future of our local clubs and their ability to remain up and running.
“This has been a great year for sport clubs Dublin Fingal, who have received over €1 million already this month as part of the Sports Capital Grants programme.
“I fully commend Fingal County Council for securing this funding for O’Dwyer’s GAA and Balbriggan Football Club, and Minister for Sport Leo Varadkar T.D and Michael Ring T.D. for investing in projects that will continue to benefit our community for years to come.”
