Over 80 jobs to be created thanks to new Cavan milk facility- O’Reilly

7th September 2017 - Senator Joe O'Reilly

Over 80 jobs will be created thanks to the new Lakeland Dairies’ €36 million milk powder plant in Bailieborough, a Fine Gael Senator has said.

Cavan Senator Joe O’Reilly said the new facility will also support the local agricultural community as Lakeland Dairies source all of their milk from local farming suppliers.

“I am delighted that the new €36 million milk powder plant in Lakeland Dairies in Bailieborough was officially opened by my Fine Gael colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, Trade and the Marine, Michael Creed TD.

“This investment by Lakeland Dairies in expanding their operations in Bailieborough signifies a vote of confidence in Cavan as a business base, and in the talent of our local workforce.

“As a result of the commissioning of the third milk dryer, which is the integral aspect of the expansion of the Lakeland Dairies operation in Bailieborough, 81 jobs will be created over the next 5 years at the companies sites throughout our local region.

“Furthermore, the amount of milk powders processed will increase from 90,000 tonnes per year, to 130,000 tonnes.

“Lakeland Dairies plant in Bailieborough is one of the most advanced milk powder plants in the world, and with the opening of this new dryer, it is one of the largest milk powder plants in Europe.

“As the local Fine Gael representative, I will actively engage with my colleagues in Government to ensure the needs of communities across Cavan are heard, understood, and acted upon by every Minister and Government Department.”
