50 new jobs and €40m investment in Ballytivnan – McLoughlin
29th June 2015 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Sligo/Leitrim, Tony Mc Loughlin TD, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD of a €40 investment and 50 new jobs for AbbVie in Ballytivnan.
“AbbVie is creating 50 new jobs and investing €40 million in expanding its operation in Ballytivnan. AbbVie launched in Sligo in 2013 with the creation of 75 new jobs and since that time the company has gone from strength to strength.
“Sligo has proven to be an excellent location for AbbVie, where they produce drug delivery devices, including a pen-style injector used for a range of auto-immune conditions. Indeed the North-West of Ireland as a whole is quickly becoming a centre of excellence for technological expertise and life sciences.
“Today’s announcement by AbbVie is a great example of what is possible in Sligo. We have the skills and the infrastructure to attract multi-national businesses like AbbVie. The site employs a highly skilled workforce specialising in the disciplines of science and engineering, with 80 percent having a third level qualification ranging from degree to Ph.D. level.
“The success of this business is testament to the great people and local businesses in Sligo. I would like to commend all of the staff at AbbVie whose hard work has brought this very positive development to pass and I wish everyone involved the very best in the weeks and months ahead.”
