400 jobs for PayPal in Dundalk
8th June 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement of 400 extra jobs in PayPal in Dundalk.
“400 new jobs is a great boost for Dundalk. The arrival of PayPal and eBay in the town have provided major employment and excellent opportunities for the people of the area. These jobs will be based at the eBay Inc. European Operations Centre in Dundalk and are in addition to the 1,000 Pay Pal positions announced in 2012.
“By 2018, 1,850 people will be employed by PayPal and eBay in Dundalk. The continued investment by these world leading companies is a huge vote of confidence in the work being done by the current employees, it highlights the top-quality skills base available in Dundalk and it emphasizes Dundalk’s attraction as a major business hub.
“It is estimated that employment in PayPal and eBay will result in 994 indirect ‘spin-off’ jobs; shops, restaurants, banks, coffee shops all benefit from people working in the town. More jobs in PayPal is not just good news for people in the company and for prospective employees, it is good news for everyone in Dundalk.
“In recent years unemployment has been a major problem, investment by PayPal and eBay has been hugely important in the economic recovery, in rejuvenating Dundalk and the wider catchment area. Creating jobs across the regions is a key focus in the Action Plan for Jobs, and it is very encouraging to see world leader’s invest in Louth.
“PayPal’s European operations centre opened in Dublin in 2003. Since then, the total number of employees in Ireland has increased from 25 to 2,169 today. PayPal is a world leader in online and mobile payments and its centres in Dublin and Dundalk now manage 60 million active accounts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
PayPal is seeking to fill roles in the areas of customer solutions, risk operations, merchant services, telesales and operational excellence. These roles are primarily English speaking and PayPal also has a number of other language opportunities. People interested in a career with PayPal should apply at www.paypaljobsireland.com.”
